RETROSPECTIVA E TENDÊNCIAS DO ENSINO DE COMPUTAÇÃO SOB A ÓTICA DA ITICSE (ACM CONFERENCE ON INNOVATION AND TECHNOLOGY IN COMPUTER SCIENCE EDUCATION)

Introdução:The amount of available jobs in Computer Science are predict to grow in the next years, so it is important to have qualified professional for those vacancies. This generation’s way of learning is considered different due to the influence of internet and social media, causing the need of different methods and approaches of teaching that can be considered more stimulating. Many new methods are being developed and applied at universities and the ITICSE conference chooses an amount of experiments to be presented each year. Those studies are used as a foundation for the definition of the curricular basis in Brazil and internationally.
Objetivo:The main goal of this study is to review the different methods and approaches chosen by ITICSE to improve the teaching-learning process in Computer Science.
Metodologia:First, it was conducted a study about the main difficulties for the teaching-learning process from Computer Science courses. After that, all the articles were downloaded. For this Project it was defined the scope as the review of the articles from the two previous editions of ITICSE. All the articles from the 2017 and 2018 editions were read, analyzed and separated. The considered articles for this project was an amount of 57, while the excluded articles were 53. The following steps consisted of classifying and mapping the articles by their methods, characteristics, objective, SWEBOK area of knowledge and results.After that, all the collected data from the articles were analyzed to reach relevant results that were then, presented in figures and tables. Last, the final report was developed.
Resultados:The results found pointed that the USA was responsible for the majority of the articles, with a total of 24 studies. It was also possible to see that the most part of the studies fit in the “Computing Foundations” area of knowledge from SWEBOK. The experiments focusing on Projects and Courses were the higher number of studies published, followed by those that used supporting tools and games. This means that a considerable part of the studies used technology to help the improvement of the teaching-learning process. Almost all of the experiments were successful, only 4% of the articles presented results that were not positive.
Conclusões:By the analysis of the articles it was possible to consider that the studies for new methodologies and approaches for improving the teaching-learning process are on the right path, and that is important to keep exploring those ideas.
